The International Computer Music Conference (ICMC) 2010 kicks off Tuesday, June 1st and ends Saturday, June 5th.
ICMC will be hosted by Stony Brook University, in association with New York University and the Electronic Music Foundation, and will be held in New York City and Stony Brook, NY. This year’s theme is “Research, Education and Discovery.”
One of the highlights is 360 degrees of 60×60, a continuous loop of short (60 seconds or less) electroacoustic works by 360 different composers. The list of composers is quite formidable.
In addition, the concert series features an impressive 100 “sonic works” by 100 individual artists, including:
- Paramnesia by London-based composer Aki Pasoulas, who also has a selection, Seawater, in the 60×60 mix.
- In by Erik DeLuca, an electroacoustic musician who is best known for his rich compositions of marine nature recordings.
- ViPer by Princeton University Ph.D. student Tae Hong Park.
- Tear of the Clouds by Michael Klingbeil.
- Nijo by University of Manchester Director of the Electroacoustic Music Studios and Senior Lecturer in Electroacoustic Music, David Berezan, whose captivating ambient tracks can be found here.
Presumably because they couldn’t pack everything into the official-6 day schedule, ICMC is preceded and followed by a few days of tutorials and workshops.
Tom Erbe and Cooper Baker will be teaching Pure Data Object Programming, Jan Trutzscher is leading a 2-part SuperCollider workshop, and Ivica Ico Bukvic, the founder and director of L2ork, will be addressing the logistics of starting an affordable laptop orchestra. And there’s more.
A full schedule of concerts, paper presentations, poster/demo sessions, and workshops can be found on the ICMC website. The “Call for Works” page has detailed outlines of the categories.
